BGB WIN 'YES' EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
On Friday 16th November over 300 guests came together for Grantham College’s Annual Awards Ceremony – the latest celebration in the College's Diamond Anniversary year.
The Awards Ceremony recognises the achievements and accomplishments of College students from all subject areas and levels. Family and friends of award winners, local dignitaries and awards sponsors attended the ceremony.
The achievements of over 70 students were recognised this year and awards were presented by Gary Skyner, who is a highly regarded motivational speaker and comedian – he is also the second born Thalidomide baby in the UK.
In addition to the presentation of the awards, the evening included the screening of the College DVD, which was prepared by the Media Students, and showed footage of the new motor vehicle maintenance training that the College offers. This was not the only display of students’ talents, as the evening also featured two outstanding performances from the Performing Arts students. They entertained the audience with “I Sing the Body Electric” from Fame and “Rhythm of Life” from Sweet Charity – the latter finishing the evening off with a bang and the firing of glitter cannons.
Award winners honoured on the evening included Sean King, who won Sportsman of the Year. Sean was an integral part of the Water Polo Academy before leaving the College to enter Higher Education and has played in the Great Britain Youth Team. The accolade of Sportswoman of the Year went to the fellow Water Polo player, Vicky Bowen, who has also represented Great Britain at Youth level and has a promising future ahead of her.
Other special award winners were Student of the Year Severin Gammon, who is now studying Media Production at Staffordshire University and Katherine Xia who achieved the International Student of the Year award. Heather Randall was presented with a unique Top Student award by the International Association of Book-keepers and Bill Hemingway from Grantham based BGB Engineering accepted the yes Award for Employer of the Year.
Local businesses who supported the Ceremony this year included Fenland Foods, Moy Park Limited, Tailored Systems, ICON IT Ltd, Pronetrix Ltd, EXS IT Services Ltd, You Systems Ltd and Masterfoods.
